Don't Look Down: Off The Map Enterprise In Unforgiving Places

NZ Non Fiction

It was more the love of adventure, the challenge that made John Breen take on the difficult jobs' the ones no one else wanted, but what an adventure it turned out to be. The first job John Breen and John Symons did together was the single-mens' quarters in the just-starting out new village of Haast in 1978. Breen Construction is a long established and successful construction business in Alexandra in the South Island. From Central Otago John and his band of like-minded construction adventurers have travelled to where the interesting, difficult and downright dangerous jobs are. From erecting the first radio masts using helicopters, first on the mainland and then on Stewart Island to building a T-bar lift on Ruapahu (in winter!), helping to establish the Otago Central Rail Trail, or something simple like salvaging a fishing boat from the rugged wild and stormy coast of Fiordland. Try building the Lake Onslow dam for the Otago Central Electric Power Board in a single summer. No job too difficult or remote! A can-do attitude, has allowed these adventurers to become legends in the construction industry and heroes in Central Otago and beyond. This is a boys-own adventure with attitude!
