The book entails 34 different interviews covering all regions of New Zealand. There are 98 schools represented covering Auckland, Waikato, Thames Valley, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Wanganui, Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, Wellington, Nelson, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland.


Nearly every type of school is represented - Private and State primary schools, Private and State secondary schools, Manual Training Centres, Catholic and Protestant Schools, boarding and day schools. In addition there are some orphanages which were an integral part of some peoples' childhood.


34 people are interviewed and tell their experiences of school days. 19 of those people live in or around Thames.

Ross Sutton is retired and lives in Thames. Ross has been married 43 years. He was a secondary school history teacher for 20 years before opening a small antique shop in Hamilton. Ross' experiences of boarding school propelled him to write of them and then to branch out and record other peoples experiences. He says it has been an enlightening journey to put down the 'culture' of our nation's schools.
