Des Hunt lives and teaches in the Coromandel, and is a highly experienced non-fiction author for children, with a string of science texts to his credit. A Friend in Paradise was his first published work of fiction. A widely respected figure in New Zealand educational circles, Des has been the Visiting Teaching Fellow at Auckland University and the recipient of the Woolf Fisher Memorial Award for services to education and the New Zealand Institute of Physics Award for outstanding service to Physics Education. He has also been involved in developing national science curricula.
