Gardening With Worms a Manual for New Zealanders (Revised Edition)

Author(s): John Stemmer

Gardening General

This simple and easy to follow manual will provide an insight for children, adults and the elderly. When one considers the average thickness of the world's topsoil is only 20 centimetres and this maintains the world's population, you realise what an important part earthworms play in our lives. No topsoil - no life! John Stemmer is the pioneer of commercial worm farming in New Zealand and established Rangimarie Worm Farm in March 1975. This time span naturally has given him a wealth of experience. There have always been many books available regarding commercial worm farming, mainly from North America, but this book deals with worms in the home garden, their uses and benefits, recycling, organics and conservation for New Zealand conditions. Currently worms are again enjoying an upsurge in publicity centred on the recycling of household waste. This renewed awareness is fuelled by city and district councils encouraging the public by offering subsidies on the purchase of compost bins, worm recycling bins or worms. Consequently this also creates a demand for more knowledge on the finer points of worming.
